Mark Thomas goes SOCA mad

Infinitely more fun than a bag of coconuts (I couldn't stop crying for laughter) was Mark Thomas who did a gig at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen a couple of weeks back. Soffee's grandma came to babysit and Meg and myself got an evening out.

If you've not had Mark Thomas on your radar like an over sized multi-headed logic busting ant, then as the man says, "your not paying attention".

Mark campaigns (amongst other things) against the arms trade, he once set up an arms company run by a nun and some Catholic school girls.

At the moment he is working on dismantling the anti-democratic absurdity that is SOCA. The Serious Organised Crime Act (SOCA) prohibits and restricts a good many things including the right of assembly around the palace of Westminster and beyond.

The absurdity of this act led Mark to demonstrate in defence of surrealism; this has developed into a sustained campaign of mass lone demonstrations (incorporating the McDemo).

I can't really do the whole enterprise much justice, all I can say is that a certain PC Paul McInally has become something of a cult figure. I highly recommend going to Mark Thomas' show "Serious Organised Criminal" if you get the opportunity.
