Welsh Dragons

Trading standards see dragons

Trading standards officers have told the Black Mountain Smokery (Powys) to stop selling "Welsh dragon" sausages because, you guessed it, they don't contain any of the mythical beast synonymous with Wales. Clearly, the officer in charge believes in the reality of dragons as portrayed in "Ivor the Engine". The sausages in question must now be called "Welsh dragon pork sausages".

Welsh Dragon maker Jon Carthew said: "I don't think any of our customers believe that we use dragon meat in our sausages". Sadly, this cut no ice with a council spokesman who said: "The product was not sufficiently precise to inform a purchaser of the true nature of the food".

For the more adventurous foodies looking for that new Heston Blumenthal style experience sources say that dragon "tastes a little like chicken, though the flavour can be affected by diet such as the ratio of maidens to knights eaten".
