Sven the Swede is no St George

Die Weltmeisterschaft ist vorbei, the BBC didn't manage to crash and burn the web with it's streaming broadcasts, a UK journalist was found naked up a lamp post after too much Hefe Weizen (Bavarian yeasty wheat beer), the WAGs made the shopkeepers of Baden Baden very happy, and there were scenes of desperation at the refs compound after a national shortage of red and yellow cards was declared. That last one's not entirely true.

England went are out of the world cup after some bizarre displays of Sven (not to be confused with Yen) tactics and David Beckham resigned as captain. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, our glorious leaders got in bun fight over whether it was the "Scots what lost it". David Cameron all but accused Jack McConnell of high treason for Jackies "anyone but England" stance at the beginning of the world cup, while Gordon Brown's high profile support of the English was roundly condemned both here in Scotland (as unpatriotic) and in England (he - Gordon Brown - is a Scot so what's he supporting England for?). And the BBC were in the thick of it. Newsnight editor Peter Barron took it upon himself to park a car festooned in the St George cross in one of the less salubrious areas of Glasgow. Within ten minutes the car had been well and truly "taken care of". Whether Newsnight were entirely fair in their portrayal of casual racism in Scotland is debatable. What is a joke is the early morning motion tabled by members of the SNP. For a political party to respond in such a knee jerk manner stinks of opportunism. There are serious issues surrounding sectarianism in Scotland and racism in the UK. For Newsnight to think up and undertake a piece of sub-college journalism is bad enough. But, for a political party to respond in such an undignified manner does nothing but to legitimise what was a story that no-one with any common sense would take seriously.

And quickly onto cycling (no this blog hasn't become sports roundup). Le Tour "the Tour de France" has once again kicked off with allegations of doping. Following allegations printed in a Spanish newspaper, one entire team plus a dozen or so riders from various other teams were barred from competing. Among the barred riders were Ulrich and Basso, both tipped with a chance of winning this year's tour now that Lance Armstrong has removed the pedals from his bike. This should make le Tour a much more open event than in previous years. Keep your eyes open for David Millar racing for team SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR and Bradley Wiggins racing for team COFIDIS CREDIT PAR TELEPHONE.

For the last few weeks I have been a bit distracted writing code to "power the web" with, enjoying some fine weather, and avidly following David Cameron's every utterance on the subject of the hoody (get yours here http://www.terramar.co.uk/online-store/product/classic-hoody/).

Here at Terramar Organics we have been looking into green energy and where to get it. As it is a bit of an involved subject for here and now I won't go into the details but you can find an entry in our knowledge base here (http://www.ecobusinessconsulting.co.uk/knowledge.base/wordpress/2006/07/03/green-energy/). The kind of issues we have come across include: Is the supplier an investor in renewable energy? Is the supplier simply supplying energy from existing facilities (hydro-electric)? Is the tariff 100% green, or is it a mixed tariff? Our recommendation is Good Energy as it only supplies electricity from renewable sources thereby encouraging existing suppliers to invest in new renewable energy infrastructure.

Until another day then...
